CARTA OG — Avoiding Overspill

Updated Jun 1, 2024 2 min read

Overspill — concentrate leaking past the atomizer insert into the device — is one of the most common issues on the CARTA OG. It makes cleaning harder and can damage the base. Here's how to prevent it.

Why it happens

  • Loading too much concentrate at once
  • Temperature settings too high — concentrate bubbles aggressively instead of vaporizing
  • Not capping the atomizer during a session — concentrate splatters
  • Pulling too hard — forces liquid up and into the airpath

How to prevent overspill

  1. 1
    Load less concentrate

A rice-grain size dab is plenty for the CARTA OG. Overloading is the #1 cause of overspill — less material vaporizes more completely.

  2. 2
    Use lower temperatures

Preset 1 (550°F) or lower via the app (400–500°F). High heat causes concentrate to bubble aggressively and overflow the insert.

  3. 3
    Always use the carb cap

Cap the atomizer immediately after loading. This directs airflow through the concentrate rather than splashing it around.

  4. 4
    Inhale slowly

Long, gentle draws. Ripping hard creates negative pressure that sucks liquid out of the insert.

  5. 5
    Use the cold start technique

Load concentrate cold, cap it, then fire. The slower ramp-up reduces splashing versus dropping concentrate onto a hot insert.

  6. 6
    Clean the airpath regularly

Reclaim buildup in the airpath makes overspill worse. Clean with a cotton swab and 90% isopropyl every 25–50 sessions.
